It's actually not as bad as it might sound. This is where you turn when you're looking for an answer to a specific question or more of an in-depth explanation to how things work.

Trial Accounts

Special About Trials

Your trial account is like a paid account with a few exceptions. You'll not be able to sell/buy/breed/trade anything with the paid users of the site. We've had big problems with cheating so we've been forced to take such measures to prevent it. As soon as you pay for your account you'll be able to play the game fully. Also, your free days of your trials won't be lost if you pay before they're used up, they're added to the new expire date you get when paying.

Paying for Your Account

To pay for your account you go to your profile page. There you'll find a "payment" button. You're only able to pay by PayPal. One year is $23 and a half year is $14. If you don't have Paypal you can sign up for a free Paypal account by clicking the button or by going to www.paypal.com. Paypal is one of the biggest online payment services and is totally secure.

Profile

General

In the general section of your profile you can change your stablename, email address and other similar things. You can also make your account a SubAccount to another account (read more about SubAccounts further down) and change your password.

Preferences

In the Preferences section you can change how you want your PonyIsland to look and work. If you're on dial-up this might be a good place to go since you can set down the quality of the images on the site to make it faster to load. You can also change how you want your stable to be displayed and change a bunch of other things. Try it!
Youc an also choose what PM notifyers you want, upload an avatar for the forums and your PMs and also add a forum signature.

Presenation

Your presentation is the first thing other players see when they click your name. Therefor, a nice presentation is always good. This is where you promote yourself, your contests and your ponies. You create one by using ordinairy HTML. Press the Preview button to see what it looks like.

Breeding

Outcomes Breed

When you breed two ponies there's a lot of different outcomes. The sex of the pony is random and in the long run you'll have about just as many males as females. The baby ponys breed is most often either mums or dads but some breeds are special, they're called cross breeds and can be created by breeding two different breeds. The current cross breeds are Mer Ponies (a mix of Earth Ponies and Sea Ponies), Winged Unicorns (a mix of Pegasus and Unicorn), MerDragon (a mix between MerPony and DragonPony) and WishingPony (a mix between FairyPony and Unicorn). When breeding for a mixed breed you simply get one parent of each of the containing breeds and breed them, then you have a 20% chance to get the mutation that gives you a cross breed. So you don't get a crossbreed every time. But when breeding cross breeds to other breeds you get a bit of a more varied outcome since the crossbreed itself is then considered to be one of the breeds that combined are the crossbreed.

Some examples:
Sea Pony plus Earth Pony = Sea-, Earth-, or Mer Pony
Mer Pony plus Dragon Pony = Sea-, Earth-, Dragon- or MerDragon
Mer Pony plus Sea Pony = Sea-, Earh- or Mer Pony (beacuse Earth plus Sea can give Mer)
Mer Pony plus Mer Pony = Mer Pony

Outcomes Color

The new ponys colors are somewhere between mum and dads colors in a RGB scale. So if you breed a blue and a yellow pony you'll most likely get a greenish baby, but you can get a bright yellow or a bright blue one as well. If you breed a white and a black pony you'll get a grayish baby and if you breed two blue ponies, your new pony will be blue.
Let's make a test breeding to explain:

------------------------
Here is a possible scenario when breeding "Father" and "Mother":

Father:   208|208|208
Mother:   000|000|000

The system first calculates a random diplacement nr, it then uses this number on all the seperate colors (R G B) to recive a number inbetween its parents.

Baby:   192|192|192

After this we add a random nrs between -20 and 20 to each separate color (R G B)

R: C0 (192) -5 = BB (187)
G: C0 (192) 18 = D2 (210)
B: C0 (192) -3 = BD (189)

Baby:   187|210|189

Finaly we check these new values against the parents, they cannot have a higher color value then the parent with the highest color value and they cannot have a lower color value then the parent with the lowest color value.
The only color that is out of range in this case is the green, the baby have 210 and the maximum value is 208 so we simply set that color to 208.

Which gives us the final color of :   187|208|189 .
------------------------

Outcomes Attributes

Outcomes Attributes Your pony will not only inherit its parents color, it'll also inherit its attributes. So if you breed a high leveled pony to another high leveled pony you'll be able to get a high leveled baby. The baby will get a random number somewhere between the parents added attribute points and then a random number between that and 0. This since even very highly trained ponies can get babies that aren’t very good at contesting. So if the father has +1 in charisma and the mother has +3 the baby will have an added charisma stat of a random number in-between 1-3 and random between that and 0. Same goes for all attributes.

------------------------
Example:
Fathers stats:
Intelligence: 5 + 1 | Strength: 5 + 0 | Agility: 12 + 3 | Charisma: 8 + 4

Mothers stats:
Intelligence: 5 + 2 | Strength: 5 + 0 | Agility: 12 + 0 | Charisma: 8 + 2

Babys stats:
Intelligence: 5 + 0-(1-2) | Strength: 5 + 0 | Agility: 12 + 0-(0-3) | Charisma: 8 + 0-(2-4)
------------------------

Where's My Baby?

Your newborn baby pony can be found at your Nursery page a week after the breeding. There you have to name the baby for it to start it's life and move to your stable. The name you choose is not changeable so choose a neutral name if you plan on selling the pony later on.

Name Regulations

No adult natured, offensive, illegal or racist names are allowed. If you have a pony with an offensive name, your pony will be deleted and you'll receive a warning. If you do it again, you'll be banned. This to keep a children friendly, light atmosphere. If you find a pony with a offensive name, it's your duty to report the player who is violating the rules. This act is anonymous and all reports are carefully investigated. File a report by sending an email to: report@ponyisland.net or by PMing VeeZ.

Special Genes

How do the genes work?

Special genes are recessive, or in other words, for a special gene to show you need two genes of the same type.

Breeding a Paint

So if you wish to breed a painted pony, (or any pony with a "Special Gene", just replace the word paint in the following explanation with the desired Special Gene) you need to find a pony that is a visible paint or find a pony that carries the paint gene. To get a clue to if your pony carries the paint gene you can take a look in it’s pedigree, if your pony has a painted parent (this only applies to ponies breed in PING, not ponies from old PI) but isn’t painted, it’s a carrier of the paint gene. This since the paint gene is inherited like this, here’s an example of what happens if you breed a paint to a non carrier. P = Paint gene, + = Normal gene:

All babies get a normal gene (+) from it's father and a paint gene (P) from it's mother.

If you breed a carrier to a normal pony you get 50% carriers (+P) and 50% normal (++) ponies.

If you breed two carriers of the paint gene you will get 25% painted (PP), 50% paint carriers (+P) and 25% normal (++) babies.

If you breed a paint to a paint carrier you'll get 50% painted (PP) and 50% carrier (+P) babies.

And finally, if you breed two paints together you'll get 100% painted (PP) babies since bothe parets carry two paint genes.

Breeding a Rainbow to a Stripe

Breeding Rainbow haired ponies and ponies with a hair stripe works the same way as breeding paints. With one exception. These genes are both in the "Hair Special" locus and can therefor not both be visible at the same time. So if you breed a rainbow(|RR|) to a striped pony (|SS|) you will get babies this result:

This is because Stripe is dominant over Rainbow and therfor will only the stripe show. So if you have a striped pony with a rainbow parent and a striped parent you know it's got a rainbow gene too.

Breeding a Paint to a ZigZag

Breeding a ZigZag pony and a Paint pony works exactly as above when breeding Rainbows to Stripes. zbr />These genes are both in the "Body Pattern" locus and can therefor not both be visible at the same time. So if you breed a ZigZag (|ZZ|) to a Paint pony (|PP|) you will get 100% (|ZP|) babies, meaning visble Paints carrying ZigZags. This is because Paint is dominant over ZigZag and therfor will only the Paint will show. So if you have a Paint pony with a ZigZag parent and a Paint parent you know it's got a ZigZag gene too.

Breeding for Socks or Stockings

Breeding Socks and Stocking ponies works the same way as breeding paints. With one exception, just like rainbow and stripe both genes are on the same locus so both can't be visible at the same time. In the case of these genes Socks are dominant over Stockings so you'll therefore get a visible Sock pony when breeding a Sock pony to a Stocking pony.

Breeding a Rainbow to a Paint

If you breed Rainbow pony with no body pattern genes to a Paint pony with no special hair genes they'll work independently. This since the genes are in two different loci. So when breeding a Rainbow pony to a Paint pony you get a carrier of both genes but no visible ones.

Contests

Create a Contest

To create your own contest you'll first have to save up for an Arena. When you've bought an Arena a new link will appear in your "Contest" section that now is named "Arena". There will be a menu called "Organize Contest". Here you can create your very own contest! First you have to pick a name for your contest. Second, you have to pick when you want the contest to run. There is a maximum of 20 days. Then choose how much of the entry fee, your "Profit" for the classes that goes to you, the rest will go to the winners. The winner of each class gets 50% of the prize pot, the second gets 30% and the third gets 20%.

Description/Prizes

Then write a short description of your contest, clarifying what it's about. You can change the description later on if you add more classes or see a spelling error by going back to this page and choosing the desired contest in the "--=[Organize Contest]=--" drop down. This is also where you change the prizes after creating the contest.

Now you choose the prizes you want to give the winner, you can either choose from the pre-made prizes that can be found in the "Pre-Made" section of the manual or you can make your own. Prize pictures should be 70x100 pixels, in .gif format. If pictures are in any other format they won't work. Nor can you have pictures bigger then 20k each. You're only allowed to use your own graphics for prizes, unless you have another artists written permission to use their art.

Adding Classes

When you've created your contest you must choose what classes you want in it. Adult classes cost 800PG to create and baby classes cost 400Pg to create. You do this by going to the Arena page and clicking the contest you wish to add classes to. First you name the class in the "Class Name" field, and then you choose the fee for the contest. Fee is how much it'll cost to sign up a pony for the class. Then choose what type of competition you want. To see what attributes are used in what contests and which breeds that can enter a certain competition, look below. The you choose the amount of competators you'd like to allow in your contestif you don't want to fill up your arena of some reason. Ponies per user are how many ponies each player will be able to sign up with in this class. Now you can choose a specific breed if you want one, like if you want a flutter pony only beauty contest, you'll have to choose flutter as your specific breed. The you choose what age group the contest is for, adults or babies. Then you can choose if you want both genders to be able to compete or if this one is for males/females only. Then you choose how high attributes ponies may have or if you want to use levels, you choose maximum and/or minimum level of the ponies.

Experience

The experience gained from contests is calculated with this formula:
("number of unique players"/"place in contest" + (("number of unique players"-"place in contest" plus 1) - "number of unique players"/"place in contest")/2) * "the stats that matters in the contest"

If the contest is a beauty contest, the experience gained is based entirely on the ponys charisma stat.
If it's a marathon, all stats will matter equally much when determining the XP gained from the contest. So all stats will be divided by 4 and added up to become the "stat that matters in the contest" in the formula above.
If it's a swimming contest, the strenght stat and the agility stat will be divided by 2 and added up for the "stat that matters in the contest"

When taking your pony to the vet

1. It's your responsibility as a player to make sure that the vetting go through. Since there's a lot of different reasons that can make the vetting to not go through.
2. Always make sure you let the page completly reload before you go to another page, click a link or do somthing else to make sure the vetting vent through. Ctrl+F5 refresh the page and make sure the "V" is gone from the ponies to be 100% sure.
3. The best way to make sure your vetting goes through is to keep an eye on your PG total at the top of the page, if the PG goes down you can be sure the vetting went through and that you're not viewing a cached page.

Mood

About Mood

All your ponies have a mood bar, it’s right next to the food and health meter in their presentation and in the main theme it’s purple.

That’s where you see how happy your ponies are. The mood only affects your ponies performance in contests and even there it’s not such a big deal as health for example. So if you wish to give your pony that extra power in a contest it can be nice to spend some time with it before the contest runs, feeding it cakes and making it feel really loved.
You can describe the different moods like this:

Mood: 5
Pony perfectly satisfied

Mood: 7
Pony feel like it’s Friday night

Mood: 10
Pony feels like it’s Christmas

How Mood is Determined

Your pony always have a standard mood it strives for depending on the stable it lives in and the pixie the takes care of the stable.
So if your pony lives in a stable suitable for it’s kind (and earth pony like a Unicorn in an earth stable) its standard mood will be 7. If your pony lives a in a stable not for it’s kind (like an earth pony in a water stable) its standard mood will be 5. And if your pony lives in a stable for the opposite kind of pony (water living pony a fire stable for example) it’s standard mood will be 3.
The mood strives towards this mood four times a day. If you then buy a stable upgrade that adds a stable type to your stable and equip it your ponies of that element will also be happy with a standard mood of 7.
Things that affect mood temporarily positively is winning contests, leveling up, giving birth, then both mum and dad gets happier and eating snacks (more about that a bit further down). Things that affect your ponies’ mood the other way is pregnancies, the mares are a bit moody and cranky so mood will go up and down and loosing contests.

Pixies

The different pixies can also change the ponies mood depending on how good they are at taking care of your ponies. The fairy queen, Elaine is the best at this and she increases standard mood by 3. The others increases mood from between 0 to 2.

Items

Food items available at the store can increase your ponies mood temporarily. So if your ponies mood needs an extra push before that important contest, I suggest that you go to the store and buy it some snacks. By feeding your pony snacks you increase mood, food and sometimes health.

Tattoos

Tattoo Your Pony

First of all, your pony needs to be an adult for you to be able to tattoo it. When its grown up and you go to the “Edit” section of the ponys profile you’ll be given the option to upload tattoos. You can upload as much as three tattoos on your pony if you want to. To see where your ponys tattoo will appear take a look here at:
Kiroges tattoo location guide:
http://friends.cyberleo.net/seien/TattooLocations.html

If you’re unsure about how to make a tattoo you can use one of the pre-made ones that can be found in the “Pre-Made” section of the manual or you can take a look at:

HollyAnns tattooing guide:
http://www.ki-tera.com/hollyann/tattoo/

When creating a tattoo for your ponies you need to make it a .gif image and it can not be bigger then 20k. Images will be made to fit the pony by it being applied underneath the shadow layer making it look like a part of the pony. Your image should preferably have a transparent background or a background of the same color as your ponys body.

Tattooing Restrictions

It's illegal to use someone else's tattoo without their permission. If someone is using your symbol, report it by sending an email to: report@ponyisland.net and we'll look into it. We can easily see who used the symbol first and the guilty one will have their ponies with the stolen symbols cleared. If the same person is repeatedly reported with stolen symbols, those ponies might be deleted. It's illegal to use someone else’s art without permission or any kind of copyrighted material. Nor may you use a tattoo with any kind of adult natured, offensive, illegal or racist content. Read more about this in the "Rules" section. If you have a pony with an offensive symbol, your pony will be deleted and you'll receive a warning. If you do it repeatedly, your account may be deleted. None of these things are automatic and all reports are investigated by the PonyIsland staff. This is to keep a child friendly, light atmosphere. If you find a pony with an offensive symbol, it's your duty to report the player who is violating the rules. This act is anonymous and all reports are carefully investigated. It's important that you do this since it's very hard for us to have absolute control over so many ponies. If you're correct in your report, you might receive BPoints for your help.

Finances

Banking

In your Finance section you'll find the bank. The bank feature allows you to lock your PG away for a set amount of time. Be sure you do not lock away all of your PG as you are unable to retrieve it from the bank until the unlock date. Simply chose how long you want your PG to remain in the bank in the drop down menu. The longer it stays locked, the higher interest rate you will earn. Then enter the amount you wish to save and click the create button. You may have up to 5 different investments, each up to 10,000 PG. In this way you can save 50,000 PG. Your PG will earn interest at the end of every week, and investments that are locked for 2 weeks or more will earn interest on the previous week's interest too.

Transferring PG

You can use this feature to transfer PG to other players or move PG between accounts. Select the recipient from the dropdown menu. For a user to show up in the dropdown menu it have to be in your contact list. Then enter the amount you wish to send in the text area labeled "Amount". If you want you can send a message with your transfer so that you and the receiver know what the PG was for. When you have entered that information, just click the send button.
