Very Boring Grownups Breeding Mavens The Azuyan Project The Writer's Guild

Hey everybody, there seem to be a lot of "eh" ending words popping up lately... For example, saying "bunneh" instead of "bunny" or "poneh" instead of "pony". This is breaking our chatspeak rule, because they're not real words and can be hard to understand for non-native English speakers (or myself, hehe).

I know it's fun, but in the best interests of the community, I'm going to have to request that this stop. Thank you :smile

or....
"Pwetty Pweease with cherries?" (just pretending?)
Or....
"Oh snarf..." (I say that all the time) :XD
LOL

EDIT: Can we still say "Eh... that's not going to work..."

cmasoccer95, I assume "ish" falls under this rule as well. And "pwease", etc. Since ish and pwease are not real words.

Oh yes, that's fine :smile I'm just talking about changing actual words.

Cmasoccer, the first example you posted (ish) is also considered chatspeak. The second one, same thing. The third one is fine, because you aren't changing a word, you're substituting something for what would generally be a curseword (in the same way that "darn" and "dang" are used).

I must admit that I had a mini-panic attack right there. I love the word, "eh". x3 So I suppose it would still be alright to say, "So you think that bunnies are cute, too, eh?", correct?

And in regards to the 'ish' thing. May we say something like, "Twenty cents-ish", or, "7pm-ish"?

So about all the questions. :smile I'd really rather not get in trouble for chatspeak like I did when I was new, so.... ^_^;;

Oh, real quick, while we're semi-on topic, are smiley faces still allowed? I know that they're not really chat speech, but I also know that quite a few people use smileys that people often don't recognize (some of mine, for example).

Just since we're here, I suppose there's never a bad question. :smile Thankies! :love (Oh, and is 'thankies' allowed? ^_^;;)

Neither did I untill recently, one of my posts get deleted for saying "nuu" instead of "noo" which I had never seen a User be pulled up for before. But it makes perfect snese (ETA: Snese? -rofl- I must keep that in for comedy's sake, but it should say 'sense') (the rule, not 'nuu' XD) and so I suppose these go along with it. I am a hater of Chatspeak and was distraught to find I had been using it completely oblivious to its true self.

T'was a naughty chat speak term masquerading as a real word! *sulk* ;D

For example, if your username is changed to
"Silly mooseh ish back" (Silly moose is back)
It is fine.

If your pony is called
"Silleh Floppeh Bunneh" (Silly Floppy Bunny)
It is fine.

BUT... (Sorry for the caps!)

If you post:
"Meh ish having a parteh in the clubs forum in the Silly Happy Chocolate Club forum! Pwetty pwease come!!!
You nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeddddddddddddddddddddddddddd to come!!!! Meh tells you so!!!!!!!!"
(I am having a party in the Silly Happy Chocolate Club forum! Pretty please come! You need to come! I told you so!)

It is against PI rules.
Never, I repeat never post anything like this. (unless it is just an example in a thread like this. :3 Like what I wrote up here ^^^)

(EDIT: I remembered I posted the evil word "Meh" in a previous post. I went to change it, and saw that it was already changed. *growls at self* I never knew until I saw this... *growls again*(Almost wrote meh again!!! I almost said *meh is silly...* *growls harder*)

Quote :

Now, I understand this, but I have a question. What about 'ebil' is this allowed, or no? And is this new rule in effect today?

Well, this isn't a new rule. The chat speak rule has always been in place. People just weren't aware that some of the words they were using are, in fact, chat speak. Technically, "ebil" is not allowed.

Quote :

Aww do I have to change my user name?

Nope, usernames and pony names are exempt from this rule :smile

Quote :

Umm... question! Is it against the rules to put "eh" at the end of someone's name? Like "Mooneh"

That's a tough one, because people do have nicknames. People call me "Starzy", which isn't a real word. I'd say in most cases, it is ok, because usernames themselves are exempt from the rule.

Quote :

oh... i didnt know. what about faces like XD?

Yes, smilies are allowed :smile (see?)

Quote :

Yes, this is fine! You're not changing the spelling of any words.

Quote :

And in regards to the 'ish' thing. May we say something like, "Twenty cents-ish", or, "7pm-ish"?

"ish" as a suffix is fine, it's a real word and in the dictionary. What is not allowed is using "ish" instead of saying "I" or "is".

I think I covered everything, yes?
